Trail description

The Val Viola route from San Carlo is one of the most beautiful in the Bormio area, in terms of landscape.

From San Carlo, to reach Arnoga, you can make a first (sometimes difficult) climb and then a flat road. Alternatively, you can rely on the numerous bike shuttles that operate on site.

From Arnoga, the route does not present significant difficulties and can be done by everyone, with minimal experience on a bike: just pay attention to the uphill stretch before to reach the splendid Viola lake and on the way back, on some challenging but very short downhill sections.

The first part of the track is on asphalt and apart from a steep bump to overcome, there are no difficulties.

At the Altumeira car park, the track becomes a dirt road and gradually begins to increase the slope until it reaches Lake Viola.

At that point, the road to reach the refuge Viola is practically flat.

The return is possible by retracing the same road, but there is a valid alternative in the Val di Dosdè, where a singletrack starts that takes you back to Arnoga, but with an unexpected show and very pleasant...

From Arnoga, take the Decauville, which takes you back to the town of San Carlo with a flat route and an easy descent.
