Trail description
The Stelvio Santini granfondo has been defined as one of the top 10 granfondos in the world.
Starting from Bormio, you descend to Tirano following secondary roads, climb then to Teglio, the homeland of pizzoccheri. Then go to the bottom of the valley and return towards Tirano and climb up to Tovo.
You then tackle one of the toughest climbs in Europe: the Mortirolo pass on the most demanding side, where slopes reach up to 23% at the end.
You go back down towards Grosio and back in Bormio. At that point, the granfondo becomes a legend: you tackle the 21 km climb that leads to Stelvio Pass.
You can also tackle two shortened routes:
- the short route, which includes the descent to Sondalo and the ascent to Bormio and then the ascent to Passo Stelvio.
- the medium route, which follows the long route, except for the ascent to Mortirolo.
