Trail description

The Monte Legnoncino mtb route is a popular destination for bikers who frequent Lake Como.

It offers spectacular views of the lake and all the valleys below.

The climb is very tough: the first part on a bituminous road with steep slopes, interspersed with quiet paths immersed in the woods, to then arrive at the final climb on asphalt to reach the Rifugio Roccoli Lorla.

To reach the top of Monte Legnoncino you have to take an old military road with a very bumpy surface. The last meters must be covered by pushing the bike on not easy single trails.

All the difficulties are rewarded by the panorama that can be enjoyed from the summit: both of Colico and the entrance to Val Chiavenna and of the vastness of the lake from Como towards Menaggio and Bellagio.

The descent is initially very difficult, on single trails excavated by rainwater.

Return to the Roccoli Hut on a difficult and very difficult to pedal path ( perhaps it is better to retrace the military road of the climb), the lake is flanked on the right and you can choose the way back.

The last time we took the comfortable (initially) path on the left that leads up a path that has steps to be tackled with caution.

Our route is the one on the right at the end of the lake: difficult to find and difficult to walk for the first 400 m (with a vertical drop of almost 200m). The rest of the descent is simple, on single flowing and very scenic trails. A real fun.

The last stretch follows the tarred road used for the climb.
